Rich and I have made it a tradition to have an 80's day every spring break that we're in town. This year 80's day will be on Thursday! This means that on Thursday, I'll work at feathering my bangs, and will peg my jeans and wear blue eye shadow. We'll buy tons of junk food
eighties snacks (Jiffy Pop, Reese's Pieces, Nutter Butters, Lik-em-aid, Whatchamacallits, YooHoos, Licorice Whips, Cheese Wiz, Whoppers, Gummy Bears, Fruit Roll-ups, Shasta, Skittles, Zotts, etc.), and will
lip sync to all eighties music using a hair brush as a microphone (
Thriller (Mikey J),
Take on Me (Aha),
Money For Nothin' (Dire Straits),
Video Killed the Radio Star (Buggles),
Manic Monday (Bangles),
You Spin Me Round (Dead or Alive),
Born in the USA (Bruuuuce),
Lucky Star (Madonna),
Karma Chameleon (Boy George), etc. AND possibly most importantly we will have an all day
movie marathon. This year, I figured we needed some help in choosing our movie list since last year I had trouble staying awake through some of them...
Here is a sampling of what we're considering this year (and let me know if I've missed a VITAL movie):
Airplane
Aliens
Beetlejuice
Better Off Dead
The Breakfast Club
Caddyshack
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Ferris Beuler
A Fish Called Wanda
Goonies
Gremlins
Heathers
I'm Gonna Get You Sucka
The Karate Kid
Labyrinth
Meatballs
The Never Ending Story
Pink Floyd The Wall
The Princess Bride
Raising Arizona
Romancing the Stone
Savannah Smiles
Say Anything
The Shining
Some Kind of Wonderful
Spaceballs
(This is) Spinal Tap
Strange Brew
The Terminator
Tremors
Tron (!)
Top Gun
Top Secret
When Harry Met Sally
Xanadu
Young Guns
Of course, we can't watch all of these marvelous movies. That would require an 80's week, month, or worse - a whole decade! Better just stick to four or five movies. Let us know what you think we should watch!
Also, if you see a cheap mullet wig for sale, Rich is in the market (permed is preferable).

Oh How FUN!!! I so wish I could be there for 80's day! You have my favorite movie of ALL time, "Karate Kid" on your list! I used to watch that movie over and over again!
You forgot "Beaches!" In fact I remember when you called me one time sobbing, in fact you could hardly talk you were crying so hard, I got all freaked out then you told me you were just watching "Beaches!" I love that movie too! I always think of you when I watch it! One because of that incident and two because your MY best friend!
I can't wait to hear all about 80's day!
Oh and I want to see a picture of you with feathered bangs and Rich with a mullet!
Jen, you knew me when I really DID have feathered bangs! I think it was 5th grade. I remember a slumber party on my birthday and going toilet papering...At least that's what I associate with feathered bangs for some reason.
Yeah, I remember that Beaches day, too. We were both home from school, sick! We were SO goofy. Wait. Did I use past tense just then? I mean, We ARE so goofy!
BTW, I found pics of us at ninth grade prom. Remember when Misty's date, Lee, ordered the Sword Fish at Olive Garden? What. A. Moron.
I had a major crush on my date, Cory (aka Whitebread), but was way too shy to tell him. I guess I've always had a thing for tall, skinny nerdy types.
i think you should tell our class about eighties day whenever we get back from the break because i really want to hear about it! youre watching a lot of movies i definitely like!
and i really hope you have a great spring break mrs haag!<3
I am so impressed you remembered that. We were both home that day from being sick. How old were we? I think we in Jr. High! We really have some goofy memories! Yes I remember out 9th grade prom However I don't remember Cory. How can I forget that?! Anyways I would love to see the pictures!
Have fun on 80's day!
You've got to watch 'Dirty Dancing'....it's so bad it's brilliant - that and Xanadu and if you can find it 'Can't Stop The Music' which stars Steve Gutenberg and the Village People and is probably one of the worst movies of all time :)
Speaking of Jr. High, its me, Erin T from Lincoln Jr. High! I found your blog through Lisa's and have been reading here and there, and Ginger, I think you're fabulous! 80s day is a rockin' idea!
Now that is a Spring Break I could enjoy. Only you girl, only you. Never one to let past feel good memories go forever. Way to relive what brought joy. I want pictures of the feathered bangs.
Hi all!
Yes, Justin, I am sure to tell your class about 80's day! They think I'm wack-o anyway. What's one more story? :)
P-ta - Dirty Dancing? Really? I don't know. After Donnie Darko, I can't stand to look at Patrick S. But maybe I should give it another go. I'll look for your Gutenberg movie. Sounds hilarious!
Hi Erin T! Wow! It's cool to hear from you! We should catch up! I'm glad your here. Welcome! (and you're nice!)
Michelle and Jen, I can't promise pictures (though I will be dressing up), so you might have to simply imagine what I look like with 80's hair. OR maybe you could simply REMEMBER! Geez. :)
HERE. WE. GO!
I know it's waaay too late, but I am just now getting back to my computer at school... yeah, I live in the dark ages. Hope your 80s week rocked!! Two movies that were 80s staples in my house were "War Games" and "Project X." Ahhh... takes me back to when computers that filled the room and trained monkeys were all the rage.
