My Mom says I'm too serious on my blog, which of course means that now is the time on Viaggio where we dance! My students are dying to get me to learn the Soulja Boy dance, the latest line dancing craze. They giggle every time I say the word "soulja." Wait until they actually see me doing the dance! The fact that I just learned about it last week means that it is already on the outs. But it's fun, anyway. I think I'm getting pretty good at it. You should seriously try it! Here is the instructional video. Um. I mean, here's how to CRANK That! (wink!)

Boy times have changed! Saying "wipper snapper" and now this!! I am getting old!! I can so see you doing this dance. You are such a great teacher!!
Is "Crank that" a new saying these days!! I had a student say "OH snaps" the other day when I told him something he liked!! It cracked me up!
Oh and..
Did they film that in an empty pool?
Ginger that is so awesome we just got back from a surprise party for a 17 year old and the kids were doing this dance out on the deck and I had no idea what they were doing was actually the new dance craze. I think it is so freaking cool I will be downloading the song and learning the dance in my living room.....ALONE!!!! Thanks for sharing.
"crank that" is new-ish, I suppose. Perhaps it is derived from "get krunk" which is a little different in meaning. Krunk/crank; Krank/crunk; oprah/Uma; Uma/Oprah.
First of all, I'm not really allowed to use these expressions. I'm 31. I'm white. I teach school. Plus, by the time these expressions get to me, they're over. Some new expression has taken the place of the old "lame" one that the adults know and think they can use. I would imagine that it's the same filter going the other way. In other words, if an elementary kid is using an expression ("Oh, snap!" for example), at the high school level, it's over and done with.
As for the dance, I've got it! Well, as much as I will get it. I still have a little bit of trouble changing direction without hesitation, but I can do it well enough to surprise the kids with it tomorrow. :P
I fully intend to make an ass of myself which, as usual, is nothing new. And pray that I don't injure myself or others in my attempt.
Funny tidbit about "Oh Snap":
Have you seen the show, "My Name is Earl"? It comes on during "Ugly Bettty" so I don't watch it often, but it's one of Rich's favs.
In one episode, Joy, one of the main white trash characters who happens to be married to a black man, got into some trouble so she made a run for the border. She always says "Oh snap!" for everything, so she looked it up in Spanish so that she could communicate in Spanish.
Now she says, "Oh, chasquido!"
And Rich and I say it too because we are miming monkeys.
No, I haven't seen "My Name is Earl" I am sure it's because I too am watching Ugly Betty! But how funny!! I'm going to tell Is about that I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it!!
Love you!!
Oh and Let me know how the dance goes. I am sure your students will LOVE it!!
Ginger-poo...I just LOVE your blog. Just this minute caught up on all recent entries. HC and "teacher dress code" definite favorites; but don't laugh, tried the line dance in the privacy of my home and after 1-4 moves, I'm totally lost!! So I just wait until that part comes around again and I'm good for, yep 1-4.........such fun.......what a 'hoot' you are, and I love you!!
Ginger you could have someone video tape it so we could all share in the fun.
Freaking Halarious.... When do we get to see the video of you doing it?
Can I say that I am the last one to hear about this dance. I thought It was just a Dallas thing..... Apparently he is from atlanta and just released his cd yesterday....!
