"Mother Teresa’s hidden faith struggle, laid bare in a new book that shows she felt alone and separated from God, is forcing a re-examination of one of the world’s best known religious figures.
"The depth of her doubts could be viewed by nonbelievers and skeptics as more evidence of the emptiness of religious belief. But Roman Catholic scholars and supporters of the woman who toiled in Calcutta’s slums and called herself “a pencil in God’s hand” argue that her struggles make her more accessible and her work all the more remarkable."

Love the fact she had doubts, but served and pressed forward anyways. True meaning of faith lived out.
In light of the God's Warriors special and the rise of fundamentalism everywhere, it is wonderful to see that someone we all view as godly had doubts and struggles. Doubt is a sign that your brain is working. Fundamentalists have no doubts -- they have the answers, they know they're right -- and that's what makes them so scary.
Why would nonbelievers view doubt as a sign of "the emptiness of religious life"? If believers never doubted they would just be zombies feasting on the panacea of their religion.
See how it all comes back to zombies? :)
It makes me admire Mother Teresa even more to know that she had doubts about her faith. She is even more genuine and amazing to me. I feel like I can relate to her on some level now. There's something she and I have in common.
I also agree that doubting is painful. I sometimes want to go back to just believing everything I was taught as a child without question.
She seemed to devote her whole existence to doing God's work. How much more painful must it have been for her to doubt something she had given so much of herself to. And yet she continued to serve God and give of herself to those that needed to see a glimpse of His love.
